International Excursions

York School Students are given real opportunities to become citizens of the world through organized international trips that support a range of curricular and co-curricular goals. Some of our most popular excursions involve a significant service element, including an annual trip to India where students work at a school for settlement children. Other international opportunities at the Senior School level include music, art, Model UN, debating, athletic and language excursions to destinations that have included Bermuda, Hungary, Hong Kong, and several cities across North America.

The York School India Trip:
Tucked away on Vellalore Road, there is a very special project that has captured the hearts and minds of Canadians. For nearly a decade, the York School community has visited the Global Pathways School in the village of Chettipalayam, which was started by The York School’s own founder, Barbara Goodwin-Zeibots and former Junior School Head, Barbara Galbraith. The school, which opened in June of 2009, runs from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Over March Break, two groups of Senior School students have the chance to travel with York School teachers to the school to work with staff, assisting in child care, working on construction and maintenance projects, and taking part in various education efforts with the children.

The International Service Learning trip to India is a unique leadership and community service opportunity for students that will challenge their worldviews, lead to personal growth, greater international understanding, as well as increased sensitivity to the needs and perspectives of people living in developing regions of the globe.

Student Exchange Programme

Student exchanges offer vital opportunities for students to welcome guests into our community and to grow through immersion in and exposure to a different language, place, and culture.

Students in Grade 9 and 10 may apply for a six or seven-week exchange in France. Not only does the experience improve students’ facility with the target language, but it also builds independence and self-esteem while developing decision-making and leadership skills.
