The Junior School Gladiator Athletics programme is an integral part of the educational experience at our school. A healthy body/mind balance is one of The York School’s core values across curricular and co-curricular life. The Junior School provides foundational athletic experiences that promote FUNdamental athletic development while athletes begin their journey to be life-long participants.
Our GADP (Gladiator Athletic Development Programmes) provide our Junior School student-athletes with a multi-sport approach to athletic development. Students from JK to Grade 2 are given opportunities in soccer, yoga, fitness, floor hockey, hip-hop dance, basketball and volleyball. These foundational experiences fuel our athletes throughout the Active Start and Fundamental stages of development according to Canada Sport for Life.
TYS provides the most outstanding coaching in the CISAA. With external coaches from various arenas (North Toronto Soccer, Ryerson University, University of Toronto, Team Canada Volleyball) our athletes are truly inspired.
Our competitive teams begin in Grade 3. We offer various teams in the sports of soccer, cross-country, basketball, volleyball and track and field. At this stage of development, our teams use sport as a tool for learning with a focus is on participation.
Our Junior School has a Junior School gymnasium and outdoor turf (playground) for training.
With a clear vision and mission, the Gladiator Athletics programme will continue to thrive along with our student-athletes. Follow us closely—on social media, on the sidelines, or in the sports pages—and see what we have to offer.
