The York School is a not-for-profit corporation led by a Board of Directors that oversees the strategic direction of the School. The Board is composed of parents and community members who are experts in advancement, governance, human resources, marketing, law, finance and strategy.
One of the Board’s primary responsibilities is to hire the Head of School who works with the Board to establish and articulate the strategic direction required to achieve the School’s vision and priorities. These plans are then executed by the Head with the support of the School’s leadership team and the faculty.
The Board also approves the annual operating budget, which is created based on the current funding priorities. This includes approving decisions about tuition increases, external revenue sources and major fundraising or building initiatives. The Board’s emphasis is on sustainability and stability: its decisions secure and promote long-term interests so that the children of our current students will be able to attend The York School in the future.
