The Class of 2024 Bursary Campaign

The Class of 2024 Bursary Campaign is a chance for graduating families to “pay it forward” by giving students with demonstrated financial need and great academic promise the same door-opening opportunities and experiences their children have enjoyed at The York School. Since 2019, the families of graduates have generously donated more than $910,000 to support York’s Bursary Fund.

We are committed to enriching our school community by welcoming a range of diverse voices from across the city, and we recognize the critical role that bursaries and financial assistance programs can play in delivering on that commitment. Please help us achieve 100% class participation by donating to The Class of 2024 Bursary Campaign and make a York education possible for more deserving students.

Class of 2024 Bursary Campaign Frequently Asked Questions

List of 8 items.

  • What is the 2024 Bursary Campaign?

The Class of 2024 Bursary Campaign aims to bring our Class community together in support of a shared goal: to provide funding, through an endowment, for promising students whose families can’t afford the full cost of tuition. This financial assistance will allow recipients to benefit from the same wonderful experiences and opportunities current York students enjoy.
  • Are donations mandatory and is there a minimum amount required?

While we hope that every Class of 2024 family chooses to support the Bursary Campaign, gifts are not mandatory and there is no minimum amount required. Our goal is to reach 100% participation from the Class of 2024. All donations are deeply appreciated and will impact the life of our school in a truly meaningful way.
  • Where will the funds raised for this campaign go?

Funds raised through this campaign will be invested into York’s Bursary Endowment. Over time, and in perpetuity, this will provide financial assistance to highly promising and talented students whose families are unable to afford the full cost of tuition.
  • What is an endowment?

An endowment is a lump sum of money (the ‘capital’) that’s invested and can be added to and which grows over time, with only the annual income earned from the capital ever being used for the designated purpose of the endowment – in this case, bursaries.

York’s Bursary Endowment was established in the 2022/2023 academic year. Our longer term goal is to create a $10 million endowment.
  • Do other CAIS schools in the GTA provide needs-based bursaries to students?

Yes. Unfortunately, York is well behind the curve compared to our peer schools. Most CAIS schools in the GTA offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in bursary support annually, while some provide support in the millions.
  • How are bursary recipients determined?

Funds raised will be used to support deserving students whose families’ finances have been reviewed using a third-party assessor, Apple Financial. Current York families are eligible for bursary support, and there are a number of students in our school community who are receiving bursaries.

Support is based on financial need alone.
  • How long has York been awarding bursaries?

York has awarded bursaries since at least 1998, two years before York celebrated its first Grade 12 graduating class.
  • Who can I contact to learn more or if I still have questions?
