TYS takes on BVG

-- The U14 boys started the game with strong energy and competed well early, keeping the game close and tying it up at 6 to 6 before going into halftime down 13 to 6. The group stayed engaged throughout, and there were several moments where they showed that they can compete with teams at this level.

-- As the game progressed, we began to see how important it is to identify what the opposing offense is doing and adjust our defensive strategy accordingly. The quarterback we faced was primarily looking for shorter throws and passes over the middle, so recognizing those tendencies earlier and communicating as a group will help us execute our defensive assignments more effectively and limit opportunities for the opposing offense.

-- Offensively, we have some simple concepts that give the boys clear opportunities to make plays, including getting the ball into Jaden's hands, who had more than 10 catches during the game. Moving forward, we need to become more balanced with our distribution, use more play action and misdirection, and continue finding ways to involve the entire group.

-- One of the biggest areas for improvement was execution. There were several situations where the play being communicated was different from what was ultimately run on the field, so continuing to reinforce assignments, communication, and simply doing your job will be important. The goal is not to make things more complicated, but to make sure everyone understands their responsibility and executes it consistently.

-- We also need to continue developing our flag pulling. Flag football ultimately comes down to making those defensive plays, and improving our ability to close space, track the ball carrier, and finish the flag pull will make a major difference in our ability to stop drives.

-- Overall, the boys remained locked in and engaged and showed that they want to succeed. We earned our first win last week, and now the next step is learning how to sustain our execution and composure through longer, tougher games so we can consistently finish strong when the game is on the line.
