PYP Exhibition at The York School: A Celebration of Curiosity, Courage and Community
On May 1, the Lower Level of The York School was alive with energy, passion and purpose as our Grade 5 students presented their PYP Exhibition—a powerful demonstration of what it means to be lifelong learners and leaders. As the culminating experience of the IB Primary Years Program, Exhibition is a true rite of passage and this year’s celebration was a shining example of curiosity, courage and community in action.
Throughout their journey, students explored issues that mattered deeply to them—from climate action and artificial intelligence to gender equity in sports and animal welfare. Each inquiry reflected curiosity—students asked big, bold questions, investigated diverse perspectives and dove deep into topics that inspired and challenged them.
What set this year apart was the courage our students showed in taking ownership of their learning. Whether conducting interviews with experts, designing interactive experiences, or presenting complex ideas to an authentic audience, our learners stepped up with confidence and care. One group explored mental health by launching a podcast to amplify youth voices, while another created a school-wide campaign on waste reduction, complete with QR codes and digital resources to promote action.
And just as importantly, this experience brought our community together. Families, staff and peers gathered to listen, celebrate and learn from our young changemakers. Students supported one another, collaborated with mentors and built lasting partnerships beyond the classroom.
The PYP Exhibition is more than a showcase—it’s a reflection of the entire learning journey at York. It’s where the Learner Profile comes to life. It’s where agency flourishes. And it’s where we see, year after year, that our students are not only ready for what comes next—they are already leading the way.
We invite you to explore the inspiring work created by our Grade 5 students by visiting the Exhibition website.
Congratulations to our incredible Grade 5s—you made our values visible and you made us proud.
