The York School 2024/25 Year in Review - Music at York: MusicFest Canada: The Nationals

The goal of The York School’s IB Music program is to foster a lifelong appreciation for music in its many forms. Students from JK to Grade 12 embrace meaningful opportunities to develop their vocal and instrumental skills, explore the connections between music and identity, immerse themselves in cross-cultural learning, and perform for their family members and friends.

We’re excited to share some of the unique-to-York learning experiences that our passionate faculty members led during the 2024-25 school year.
In May, the TYS Quartet was thrilled to join more than 7,000 of the country’s finest young musicians at MusicFest Canada, held at York University.

This was the first time that York School musicians participated in the annual event that has been bringing student musicians and educators together to celebrate excellence in music performance since 1972. Our quartet earneda silver standing by playing a challenging three tune set of improvised music that demonstrated their talent and creativity. The quartet was also delighted to be invited to perform an hour-long set for students from across the country who were attending a donor-sponsored jazz dinner at the festival.
