Boisterous bidding for United Way

With York students, there is a way.
To start off United Way Week 2010, the Upper School gathered in the Coliseum to hear speakers from United Way talk about how the efforts made by our students and community benefit those in our broader community who are less fortunate.

Yishey Choden, Marketing Manager for United Way thanked the York community in advance, and introduced Miss Lucy Grigoriadis, a volunteer at Family Service Toronto (a UW member agency). Miss Grigoriadis discussed how funds given to them from United Way help those in the community who are in greatest need.

After the speakers, York House Council held a raffle, where each of the House Heads and their co-heads auctioned off their services to the highest bidders.

After some raucous bidding, York was able to kick off the week having easily raised hundreds of dollars for UW.

To close the ceremony, the York Glee Club sang Stand By Me – their first performance ever.
