Over the weekend, three York School IB film students, Anzhelika Libkind (Grade 11), Sofia Shetinina (Grade 12), Lindsay Katz (Grade 12), entered the TIFF Next Wave Competition – a 24-hour film challenge where students are given a prop, a line of dialogue and 24 hours to plan, execute and edit a final product.
"This was no easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Working together, we were able to come up with a final idea. Executing this idea was harder than it seemed, because of the requirements and the 24 hour time limit. This was an amazing experience for all of us, as we were able to work on our film abilities and teamwork skills."
Their film is titled "You Can Totally Taste the Difference" and explores the overwhleming feeling of being halfway between two languages, lost in translation and confused about one's true identity.
"And maybe it's just me but for a while this noise in my head made me feel locked out and unable to hear my own thoughts."
