In January, Middle and Senior School students challenged themselves by signing up for the Caribou Math Contest.
The Caribou Mathematics Competition is a worldwide online contest that is held six times throughout the school year and leads to the Caribou Cup where students are ranked based on their best 5 out of 6 contests. The goal of this project is to motivate students to improve their problem-solving techniques by providing a wide variety of fun, exciting and challenging math activities.
During this 60-minute online contest, York School students tackled a variety of puzzles and math questions, and battled to beat a computer program at a game called "Chomp!". As one Grade 7 student put it, "That was hard – but that was also so fun!"
Using the results of this month's contest, students are now setting goals for personal improvement, and are looking ahead to February and April when the next competitions take place. Congratulations to everyone who participated and challenged themselves to something new!
