This weekend, the Senior Boys Basketball team played an epic game that will go down in York School history. After defeating Upper Canada College 53-37 in the semi-final, the team went on to play Villanova College. Two minutes into the game, we lost Aaron Gyenes to a sprained ankle and, after three fouls, another player had to sit out. With 1 minute and 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the team was down 7 points and things were not looking good for the Gladiators. But despite multiple players cramping from exhaustion, we were still able to fight back. Ian Hanson sunk two free throws sending the game into overtime. Then, with 9 seconds left in the game, Ian Johnson made the basket that would win the championship game.
This group has won three consecutive CISAA championships and this accomplishment is proof of the incredible dedication and heart of this team. Congratulations to the Senior Boys Basketball team for this unbelievable win and for representing the York School Gladiators with such pride.
