The York School gathered to celebrate the official opening of the NEW Leigh Family Centre for Wellbeing. Thank you to our incredible donors whose generous support allowed us to not only transform this incredible space into our new Centre for Wellbeing but also allowed us to provide Mental Health First Aid training to our Middle School homeroom and Senior School Advisors - that’s 60 staff members trained in frontline mental health assessment in intervention skills.

“Space designed with intention can bring people together in community and set a mood - the mood in the first three days since we opened the doors has been jubilant!” - Elissa Kline-Beber, Associate Head, Wellbeing

With our new flowing ceiling, one can’t help but think of the mindfulness quote of Jon Kabat-Zinn "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf."

Central to The York School’s approach to education is an appreciation for the importance of supporting the whole child. Academic success is intrinsically tied to social and emotional wellness. Through our robust homeroom and advisor programme in all three divisions, students have the opportunity to nurture meaningful relationships with teachers and peers and explicitly address social/emotional learning and character building. Counsellors work with students in Grades 9 - 12 to help them formulate individual success plans, develop personal management skills, research and apply to post-secondary schools. And ensure that our students’ unique psychosocial needs are addressed.

The York School’s Wellness programme teaches students concepts related to lifelong learning, interpersonal relationships and career planning concepts that are integral to their success as Senior School students and as responsible citizens of the world.
