Leadership in Debate

Earlier this week, 24 debating teams from across North America gathered (virtually) to compete for the Burkett Bowl.

What’s remarkable about this event was that it was student organized. Led by Ruby G., captains and coach Noah, the teams - including The York School’s own team - squared up against each other to practise their British Parliamentary style and vie for the trophy.
Four York teams made it to the semis, and kudos to Mary R, Sophia H, Ethan B and Zhen H for taking it all the way to the finals!
In the end, Westfield Debate Academy from Connecticut took the trophy. Congratulations to Manav M and Julia S from Westfield Academy for placing first.
Upon being recognized for running such a smooth and professional tournament, the organizers were ever graceful and humble, with Ruby G. responding with a ‘thanks to the debate community for the ‘opportunity and support throughout this process.
