Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director, Annual Giving plans, organizes and leads all activities related to the Annual Giving Program. As part of a dynamic Advancement Team, the Associate Director, Annual Giving works to engage current and past parents, alumni and friends to meet the school’s annual fundraising objectives and to grow and deepen the culture of philanthropy within the school community. The Associate Director has one direct report and works closely with other members of the Advancement team as well as the Marketing and Communications team. Key Responsibilities
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Plan, execute and manage all aspects of The York School’s Annual Fund, including identifying and executing on opportunities for growth in participation and Annual Fund leadership giving
- Establish and lead a donor stewardship programme for Annual donors including, but not limited to, donor recognition initiatives and events, reporting and thank you letters
- Lead the identification, recruitment, recognition and stewardship of all Annual Giving volunteers
- Manage budget for Annual Giving Program and provide budget recommendations to Director of Advancement each year
- In collaboration with Communications, write all Annual Fund materials including annual appeals, thank you letters, brochures and Donor Impact Reports
- Under the direction of the Director of Advancement, and in collaboration with Communications, manage and coordinate all aspects of the school’s Annual Report as it relates to the Annual Fund
- Work with the Manager of Marketing and Communications to develop, distribute and maintain Annual Fund communication materials and provide content for the website, school community portal and directories as required
- Build relationships with parents, alumni, staff and faculty members, volunteers and community partners to enhance the School’s culture of philanthropy
- Lead the planning and implementation of the school’s bi-annual fundraiser in support of annual priorities, working closely with the volunteer Committee and supported by the Advancement Coordinator and Senior Event Planner
- Oversee and manage daily activities of the Advancement Assistant in relation to all aspects of Annual Fund data pulls, reporting on results, gift processing, as well as pledge reminders and tracking activity in the school’s fundraising database, Raiser’s Edge
- Periodically attend Parent Association meetings with a focus on Annual Giving and community relations
- Develop and implement strategy for Alumni Giving within the overall Annual Giving Program and work with Advancement Coordinator to align strategy with Alumni Relations activities
- Attend all Advancement Committee meetings, report on the Annual Giving program, takes Minutes and provide reports and presentation to the Director of Advancement as required
- Other duties as assigned.

- University degree and/or similar designation in philanthropy
- Minimum of 5 years proven experience in a broad range of fundraising and advancement responsibilities at the mid-to-senior level
- Demonstrated success in meeting and exceeding fundraising goals
- Exceptional computer skills – proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, a Microsoft Office environment
- Strategic and creative approach in planning short-term and long-term programmes
- Astute analytical, financial and problem solving skills
- Proven ability to recruit, retain and motivate volunteers
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interact with all members of the school community, including parents, faculty and staff and students cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
- Ability to work independently and on various tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
- Previous Independent School experience considered an asset.
