Step 4: Experience

Applicants who have met The York School’s admission requirements will be invited to experience The York School during an Activity Morning, Day Visit, or Taste of York event.

Activity Morning (JK-Grade 1)
Shortlisted applicants to JK, SK and Grade 1 attend an Activity Morning at the Junior School to assess the student’s readiness for learning, social interaction and development. We do this by observing the children in small groups and individually as they move through a number of familiar activities involving numeracy and literacy skills, drawing and free play.

Day Visits (Grades 2 - 5)
Shortlisted applicants for Grades 2 - 5 spend a day attending classes with their current grade, engaging with their peers and the classroom teacher to gain a better understanding of the school’s culture and values. Assessment in reading, writing, and math will take place during the day.

Our internal assessment has been developed to evaluate an applicant’s readiness for the programme. For international applicants, the assessment is sent to the applicant’s current school to be administered by their teacher.

Taste of York (Grade 6 - 11)
Shortlisted applicants for Grade 6 - 11 participate in a group ‘Taste of York’ experience. Applicants spend half a day in the Middle & Senior School and have an opportunity to participate in classes, a group admission interview and have lunch with other applicants as well as York Student Hosts.
