One of the biggest decisions you will make as a parent is where your child will spark their curiosity about the world, build lifelong learning skills, and become a contributing member of their community.
The York School brings the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to life for students starting in JK through inquiry-based learning inside and beyond the classroom. We encourage parents to consider entry in JK for reasons provided by our own parents.
1. An early start to the IB Programme in JK
The York School is the first school in Canada and the fourth in North America to be accredited to offer the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme for students from JK to Grade 12. Students in the Junior School follow the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) from JK to Grade 5.
2. Individual attention in small classes with a student-centred approach
JK classes at The York School have a general cap of 14 students per section. Our teachers provide one-on-one attention to engage each child to help ensure that they are able to achieve their potential.
The environment at the Junior School is collaborative in all aspects and has a strong community feel. Students are in a supportive, respectful environment with many activities to support the development as we strive to nurture and develop the whole child. With our small class sizes, children get the individual attention and support they need to thrive emotionally, physically and intellectually.
3. Life is Co-Ed
Students hone inter-personal skills in our diverse and inclusive environment. Children learn from an early age how to interact with their peers and need a full range of personalities and dynamics they will experience later in life. Children who share a diverse learning environment develop an appreciation for each other, see life in new and interesting ways, and make enduring friendships.
4. JK Tuition
The York School offers an all-inclusive pricing model for our newest families competitive with full-time day-care rates ($30,000 for 2020/21). JK tuition at The York School includes before/after care, snacks and lunches.
