Applicants who have met The York School’s admission requirements will be invited to experience The York School during an Activity Morning, Day Visit, or Taste of York event.
Activity Morning (JK-Grade 1)
Shortlisted applicants to JK, SK and Grade 1 attend an Activity Morning at the Junior School to assess their readiness for learning, social interaction and development. We do this by observing the children in small groups and individually as they move through a number of familiar activities involving numeracy and literacy skills, drawing and free play.
Day Visits (Grades 2-5)
Shortlisted applicants to Grades 2 through 5 spend a day attending classes with their current grade, engaging with their peers and the classroom teacher to gain a better understanding of the school’s culture and values. Assessment in reading, writing and math will take place during the day.
Our internal assessment has been developed to evaluate an applicant’s readiness for the programme. For international applicants, the assessment is sent to the applicant’s current school to be administered by their teacher.
MIDDLE & SENIOR SCHOOL
Taste of York (Grades 6, 7 and 9)
Shortlisted applicants to Grades 6, 7 and 9 participate in a group Taste of York experience. Candidates spend half a day in the Middle & Senior School and have an opportunity to participate in classes, a group admission interview and have lunch with other applicants as well as York Student Hosts.
Day Visits (Grades 8, 10 and 11)
Shortlisted applicants to Grades 8, 10 and 11 are invited to attend the school for a Day Visit. They spend a day attending classes with their current grade and a York Student Host engaging with their peers and teachers to gain a better understanding of the school’s culture and values.
International applicants participate in a Family Skype Meeting.
