| We believe that participation in competitive and intramural sports contributes to students' physical and mental health, self-discipline, self-esteem and social development.
The York Schools offers a physical and health education course at the Middle Years Programme level. The focus is lifelong learning, which is accomplished through an elective programme covering martial arts, dance, team sports, individual sport and a variety of fitness activities. In addition, a health curriculum is taught that covers health-conscious decision making, human sexuality, drug abuse and healthy eating. Our programme involves daily physical education for all of our MYP students.
The physical activities take place in our state-of-the-art double gym, new artificial turf field, fitness facility and a local green space, the Rosehill Reservoir. We also take advantage of the facilities offered by the Badminton & Racquet Club of Toronto (squash and platform tennis courts).
Our beautiful hardwood gym also features a 100-metre banked track which is employed for fitness testing, warm-ups and athletic team training. The fitness room includes a wide variety of exercise machines and free weights.
The York School participates in a variety of competitive leagues including the CISAA and CAIS.
Whether it is on a court, field, track or ice, the majority of our senior students stay active by getting involved in one of our many teams. Check them out below.

| Badminton During the past 20 years, The York School has put forth a strong effort in badminton. Although a small group, our players are skilled and passionate.
We offer U13, U14 and Junior (U16) Girls badminton during the winter season, and Junior (U16) and Senior (U20) Boys badminton in the spring season.
Our teams compete in the CISAA league and final tournament. |

| Basketball The York School has a long and remarkable history in both Boys’ and Girls’ basketball.
Banner years were 2000 (U13 Boys), 2001 (U14 Girls), 2002 (U15 Boys), 2003 (Sr. Girls), 2005 & 2009 (Jr. Boys) and 2008 & 2009 (U14 Boys and U14 Girls). 2010 saw our U14 Girls capture a third consecutive crown (three-peat) and our Senior Boys won their first ever gold in Division 2.
The Junior and Senior Boys' and the U14 Girls' teams have also made tournament appearances and the U13 Boys have participated in the CAIS nationals. |

| Cross-Country Running For more than a decade, The York School has participated in the CISAA at the U14, Midget, Junior and Senior levels. Over this period, several York students have qualified for the high school provincial championships.
We currently train at the many beautiful city parks and ravines encircling our midtown campus.
While we have many students who are interested in competitive running, many of our students also use cross-country running as a means to improve their basic fitness.
The self-discipline developed through training can help improve overall performance. We invite any student who wishes to train with the team to do so, and encourage students to work with training buddies as a means of support and camaraderie. |

CurlingThe Upper School Curling Club practises at the Leaside Curling Club from October to December. Our team competes throughout the winter term in the CISAA Curling League at various clubs throughout the region. In both 2007 & 2008, our Boys A team won the CISAA League Championships and they were the first York team to compete at the provincial level. Poetry on ice! |

| Golf The York School stepped onto the greens for the first time in 2008, with a Junior boys exhibition team in CISAA.
In 2009, we added a Senior exhibition team.
We hope to enter into league play for both Junior and Senior boys in 2010. |

| Soccer Traditionally, we have had two teams at the Upper School level; a boys' team in the fall and a girls' team in the spring.
Our teams have won two CISSA championships for the school – Boys U14 (2004) and Junior Boys (2006).
In 2007 & 2008, we engaged the services of the University of Toronto’s women's soccer to aid the overall girls' programme.
Likewise, in the fall of the same year, we used Power Soccer coaching and clinics to aid the development of our boys' programme. |

| Ultimate Frisbee Ultimate is relatively new to the Athletics programme. Our team is coed and open to students from Grades 9 to 12.
In 2002, the team played in a local public league and since 2003 they have competed in an exhibition league within the CISAA.
In recent years, the team has travelled to Winnipeg for the St. John’s-Ravenscourt’s annual Hold Back the Snow tournament in the fall and to Barrie for OFSAA Ultimate in the spring.
Ultimate has expanded from a single varsity team in earlier years to our recent Junior varsity and Senior varsity tandem. Many of our graduates go on to play Ultimate at their post-secondary institutions.
In 2009, Ultimate became an official League Sport in CISAA. At our first appearance in the finals, our Varsity team won a silver medal. |

| Volleyball The York School volleyball programme is developing with success.
Our U12, U13 and U14 teams are gaining experience while competing against other CISAA teams, with the boys competing in the fall and the girls competing in the winter.
Our teams are competitive at both the Junior and Senior level, having made numerous playoff appearances.
In 2009, our U12 Girls team captured our first-ever gold medal. |
