POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Junior School Teacher-Librarian, the Library Technician will assist in developing, organizing, and maintaining a collection of library materials, in print and digitally. The Library Technician will maintain manual and/or automated systems as well as resources and equipment required to ensure an effective library operation for the use of students and staff. A passion for children’s literature is essential.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reference
a) Assist students and staff with using library resources and specialized equipment and ready reference questions; assist students and staff in use of online programs
b) Assist in book exchange procedures and readers’ advisory
2. Collection Management
a) Update and maintain Follett Destiny catalogue and process new items and produce statistical reports
b) Identify and apply appropriate Library of Congress and Canadian Subject Headings, and appropriate Dewey Classification Numbers as required in brief local cataloguing
c) Assist in the weeding of resources on an as needed basis
d) Perform bi-annual inventory using Follett Destiny
e) Assist with patron updates and the purchase of ebooks and audiobooks Overdrive
f) Prepare overdue notices for email distribution to students and staff
g) Shelf read and shelve books, magazines and DVDS
h) Register periodicals when received
3. Acquisitions
a) Assist Teacher-Librarian with acquisition of print and online library resources
b) Prepare library order requisitions and follow up on purchase orders and backorders
c) Order and maintain all library supplies and maintain budget records
4. Maintain Library Facility
a) Assist Teacher-Librarian with student supervision
b) Assist Teacher-Librarian with displays and promotional endeavors
c) Keep all library computers and peripherals in good working order
d) Attend mandatory bi-weekly tech sessions
Required Education, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
• Library and Information Technician Diploma
• Proficiency in the use of Google Apps and Follett Destiny is essential
• Related experience in an Independent School environment would be preferred
• Related experience with using Overdrive would be preferred

• Ability to display initiative and be adaptable to change
