The York School was a sea of green today in support of Mental Health Awareness. Senior and Middle School students gathered at assembly to listen to three guest speakers from Jack.org who shared their personal stories about mental illness. Throughout the presentation, York students and faculty engaged in a live interactive poll to anonymously answer questions about their own experiences.
The walls of the school were extra colourful with inspirational and encouraging messages posted throughout the halls reminding students they are not alone. Outside the Student Services office, everyone was welcomed to post their own messages about what causes them to feel anxiety and what helps them cope. Over lunch, students put some of these methods into practice by participating in a yoga and meditation session.
It was an amazing day for our community to come together in support of one another, and to break away from the stigmas associated with mental illness. Well done, York!
