A Message from the Vice - Chair,

Dear Alumni,

On behalf of your Alumni Association, thanks to everybody who took the time to complete the Alumni Survey.  The results were extremely helpful in planning our strategy of how to best serve the Alumni.  Last year was a big year for our association which included a number of milestones including the formation of a YAA Executive; the commencement of Alumni Basketball; the greatest attended Alumni Night ever;  our first Jays game; and 100% engagement with our class reps, who were in turn greatly helpful in getting their respective years to join our YAA group on Facebook.  Looking forward, our Alumni executive team, consisting of Adil Dhalla, Ali Babul, Pearl Mehra and Ryan Cole and myself are excited to take YAA to the next level in 2010 and champion our individual and shared initiatives.

In case you’re curious, here’s a teaser of what’s to come:

  • Our first ever Homecoming weekend, which will incorporate our annual Alumni Night with a day of sporting and spirited activity that will culminate into our first ever Alumni House Cup.
  • Two new annual events that will connect alumni with current students for mentoring.
  • A new and improved communication strategy, leveraging popular social tools like Facebook and Twitter.
  • Finally, we are exploring the possibility of leading a collaborative team that would organize a TED Satellite event at the school.

We hope you’re looking forward to 2010 as much as we are.  If you have any questions, ideas or ways that you would like to get involved, please feel free to contact us anytime.

Thank you to all those who participated in the alumni survey   As promised, we would like to share the results so that you can have a better understanding of the direction the York Alumni Association will be taking.

Objective:

The objective of the survey was to determine what your needs and expectations are, as individuals and as an association, so that we can tailor the programme to meet your requirements.

On November 20th, Mr. Jones, Mr. Hamilton, and Mr. Hanna ventured out yet again to join TYS graduates in the Kingston area for a pint of cheer and a few trips down memory lane!

Transition to University - December 11, 2009

Choosing which university to attend can sometimes be an overwhelming experience - wondering if you're choosing one suitable to who you are and what you want to achieve or wondering if you're really ready to leave the nest are common thoughts we've probably all had. Thanks to a few of our alumni, the current Grade 12 students will be better able to make decisions based on the experiences that our graduates already have.

The tradition continues! There was no better way to welcome the holiday season and end 2009 then to do it with old friends.

TYS has a few upcoming events that we hope our alumni will be able to make it out for. Save the date for these events.
