Early Years (Junior and Senior Kindergarten)

We process Junior and Senior Kindergarten applications as we receive them, and confirm enrolment in March for the next September.

We encourage children in Junior and Senior Kindergarten to attend our full-day programme. Most children in our Kindergarten Programme move to our Main Campus for grade 1.

Grades 1 to 4
We ask students who apply to grade 1 to take part in an activity morning on a Saturday in January where they will be observed by Early Years and Lower School faculty, our Head of School and York's psycho-educational consultant. Candidates for grades 2 to 4 visit the school for part of a day at their grade level where teachers assess them informally and observe them interacting with other children in the classroom.

Grades 5 to 12
We encourage all parents to visit York before they apply. Candidates in grades 5 to 12 write entrance tests on a Saturday in January – the Canadian Achievement Test (CAT), and/or math and language tests designed by our faculty.  We do not participate in SSAT examinations.

Waiting List
We place first-time York applicants on a waiting list until we re-enroll our current students in mid-February. We offer places for the following September in the previous March.
