Head of School
Conor joined The York School from The International School of Stavanger in Norway where he served as Chair of the English Department and taught International Baccalaureate English, Theatre Arts and Theory of Knowledge.
Conor has taught all of these subjects at The York School and served as the Chair of the English Department before moving to serve as Director of Admission for three years. Conor gained further experience serving as the Director of Advancement for a year, and after a very successful term, Conor became Head of School in 2011.
Conor holds a B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Toronto and a MFA in creative writing from Goddard College in Vermont.
Executive Director, Advancement
Hallie joined The York School as Executive Director of Advancement in June 2012.
Hallie has worked in the not for profit sector for 18 years, having raised funds for organizations including World Wildlife Fund Canada, The University of Toronto and The University of Western Ontario. Hallie has coached other fundraisers in the sector on how to improve their proactive fundraising activities and has written about the topic.
In addition to her B.A. from Concordia University, Hallie has her post-graduate certificate in Fundraising Management from Ryerson University.
When away from fundraising, Hallie enjoys jogging, volunteering in her local community and spending time with her husband, daughter and dog.
Junior School Principal
Susan started at The York School in 1983 as a Grade 6/7 homeroom teacher. She
became the Head of the Middle School in 1996 and has been the Principal of the
Lower School since 2005.
She earned her bachelor's degree in French and history
at McGill University. She has a Reading diploma from McGill as well as a Reading
Specialist from the University of Toronto.
Over the years, Susan has coached
basketball, badminton and softball as well as being involved in many curriculum
committees and professional associations.
Susan enjoys reading, playing tennis,
going to the theatre, travelling and summer vacationing in Maine.
Vice Principal and Director of Curriculum, Junior School
Middle School Principal
Ms. Gin began her teaching career with the former Etobicoke Board of Education teaching Math, Science and Biology. Attracted to the IB philosophy, its academic breadth, community action service component and international dimension Ms. Gin held teaching positions as an IB Biology, Theory of Knowledge teacher at the Antwerp International School in Belgium and at Seisen International School in Tokyo. She also served as Head of the Science Department at Seisen International School.
After being overseas for 5 years, she returned to Canada with a young family and taught Science, IB Biology and TOK at the York School. She assumed the role of Vice Principal overseeing the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) in 2009-10.
Ms. Gin attained her educational training from Queen’s University and the University of Toronto. She is currently completing her Principal’s qualifications with the University of Toronto.
She enjoys spending time with her 2 young daughters and husband. What free time is left is spent reading, gardening, coaching girls soccer and learning to play the piano.
Senior School Principal
David has led the Upper School since 1999, the year of our first graduating
Before coming to The York School in 1995, Mr. Hamilton worked as a
litigation lawyer in Guelph, Ontario. On the strength of a B.A. in Philosophy
and History (Trent) and his Master's degree in History (Queen's University) he
has taught both Diploma History and Theory of Knowledge.
In addition to the 320
children in the Upper School, Mr. Hamilton has four children at home to keep him
busy. For fun, he plays basketball with just about anyone, including his
children, students, teachers and members of our alumni.
